Foot injuries @ Antwerp Diamond Giants
After an injury of the ‘footsole’ of Kris sergeant last month, Ayinde Ubaka just recovered from a foot injury himself. No official news on what injury it was specifically, but in basketball, the foot and ankle complex is liable to enormous amounts of pressure. Without proper equipment and stretch/training program, injuries of the lower limb will occur without a doubt.
In musculo-skeletal injuries we can define 2 types:
A) acute injury from a sudden, powerfull (extrinsic factor) impact, or
B) chronic injury, which develops slowly because of an underlying intrinsic factor.
Most of the acute foot and ankle injuries occur from landing improperly (rebounds/jumps) or twisting while falling, are accidental and difficult to prevent.
acute injuries common in basketball:
ankle sprains,
torn ligaments,
muscle pulls,
tendon ruptures
and fractures
Chronic and sub-chronic injuries:
stress fractures,
plantar fasciitis,
shin splints,
tendinitis,
sesamoiditis
and skin/nail injuries.
The “Shoe-Test” by Mark T. Reeves
Mark T. Reeves, DPM, specializes in Podiatry and Sports Medicine. He gives regular updates on the latest runningshoes, cross-trainers, walking shoes, basketball, trail runningshoes, clogs and sandals.
But what if you want to buy shoes for your childeren? What do you look for? Dr. Reeves described 3 tests, important for the overall stability of the shoe: Torsional Rigidity, Heelcounter Rigidity and Flexion stability!
A shoe must NOT torque/twist or flex in the middle or “midfoot” and have a “rigid/stiff” heel counter to qualify as a moderate to excellent motion control/anti-pronation shoe.
Crazy Dunkers @ Lotto Arena
Last Saturday, the Crazy Dunkers, had a performance after the basketball match between the Antwerp Diamond Giants and Telindus Oostende. Our Giants had a pretty good run against the 3rd team in the ranking. They could hold on until the the very end, but then Oostende showed what makes the difference between standing 3rd from the top or 3rd from the bottom in the ranking of the Ethias League. The Giants are trying to make the best of the remaining games of this season. Apparently, Eddy Casteels is going to be the new head coach for the Antwerp Diamond Giants in the next 2 seasons. Wondering if he’s going to be able to make the Giants a top 3 team like they were in the old days when he was head-coach.
Deadline ahead
All things went a bit silent here on the blog…After easter vacation, everything’s back to normal routine BUT less than 1 month to go for my deadlines for my 2 MSc papers. All time left (apart from sleeping, eating, driving to Ghent and combining my 3 jobs) is reading and writing…
I’m cracking a couple of articles and checking their methodology

One For the Missus
Time is now for paying a tribute to my missus! Still amazed how she manages to find her way around and make herself stand out from the crowd… for the best mum ever! Hang in there – just a couple of weeks to go!
