The Lange Wapper Bridge in Antwerp
N.L.L. Löfgren, student at the Delft University of Technology, wrote in 2007 an MSc Thesis on the mechanical behaviour and the influence of the deck’s high bending stiffness and curvature. The Lange Wapper Bridge is a large infrastructural project, planned to be finished in 2013, to close the missing northern ring system around the city of Antwerp. This cable-stayed bridge will be the – state of the art – highlight of this project. Click here or here for a demo film on the bridge.
Antwerp Diamond Giants: Basketball is 80% mental and 20% physical
What could have been a walk in the park, turned out to be a disaster. The Antwerp Diamond Giants lost their game against Optima Gent, scoring on a total of 58 shots merely 50% of all 2-pointers and a lousy 1 on 3 bombs. If you see that Gent did even worse with a ’success rate’ on a total amount of 64 shots scoring 46% of the 2-pointers and 28% on 3-pointers and still managed to win… It has to be said, the team just wasn’t rollin’ like it should. Seeing how the Giants are struggling through this season, you have to start wondering why. The physical strength of the key-players like Brandon Gay; Ian Hanavan; Ayinde Ubaka, David Toya, Ryan Sears and Thomas Lamot is good, but if they can’t find their ‘mojo‘, the team is doomed play ball like it is their first time touching one… Facing the fact that this season is lost and the fight for a spot in the play-off is over, I wonder how they are gonna pick up the game next season, who is going to stay and be man enough to make up for this year, who is going to coach, if they are going to gain some mental strength and fightin’ spirit… and if I’m going to buy a season ticket next year…
