Lower Limb Injuries @ NBA 2008
Just out of curiosity I checked the NBA Injury Reports to see what the main type of injuries was this year…
Apparently 63 players got injured
12 Ankle injuries (read an article)
08 Foot injuries( read an article)
14 Knee injuries (read some more)
07 leg and muscle injuries
read more on Foot and ankle problems in basketball
That brings the grand total down to 41 lower limb injuries.
The New York Knicks had 6 players out whereof 3 indefinitly (1 suspention)
Time out…
Return of the Mack @ Antwerp Diamond Giants!
It has to be said, the team is doing good! Even more “The Mack” Dupont is gettin’ back on track. Ranking number 4 with 6 points behind leader Charleroi, I feel a lot is possible. My guys are doing great!! At first it seemed Luik was confusing our giants with a constant switching defence strategy, but in quarter 4 they stayed cool, layed out the cards and won. It almost seemed like a walk in the park – but then again, I don’t know much about Basketball. Perhaps my dunkin’ main man BG can give his comments from the insiders point of view…
Pepinster are seeing ghosts
In the shadow of Haloween, the ADG meet Pepinster.
My live quote made on my new Glofiish X800:
“Halftime and things are loooking good. ADG are ahead with 9 points and dominating the game. The train Hopkins-Black is out of service today, but the team is roling. Hopefully the 3rd quarter will be as good as last week.”
And that’s the point where it became tight. At the end of the 3rd quarter, Pepinster came back and over our giants. But after a good battle ADG won with a 81-75 and are on a 4th spot, just 3 points behind the leader Mons.

Antwerp Diamond Giants stops Mons in the 4th round
Round 4 – Ethias League Belgium. The Antwerp Giants had a tough nut to crack since Dexia Mons started their campagne with a three in a row. Starting 5 of this game were Tim Black, Bryan Hopkins, Brandon Gay, Nick Oudendag and Christophe Beghin. After last week’s match everybody was looking to coach Casteels to see if he could do it again, and Oh my God, they DID!!! Stars of this game were Hopkins and black playing the ball around at warp-speed together scoring more then half of the 93 points.
Both teams were very strong, but today the Antwerp Giants collected the Diamonds…and are launched for - what seems is gonna be – a fantastic season!
ADG gets away with a balanced start!
Saterday evening, expectations high. The Antwerp Diamond Giants came out in the second round against Ghent after a loss against Belgacom Liège Basket.
Winning this game was the only option and that is what they did!
after a slow start, the ADG profiled themselves as one team - balanced and in controle. That’s what i’ll remember and take with me to the next round… we have a coach who coaches, and players that play finally…
Keep up the good work y’all
Have a look at the game here
Brandon Gay stays!
The best news this week! Brandon Gay (25yo and 2m05) Stays with the giants. The new coach is going to have a difficult time keeping his head clear so he doesn’t have to play with to much ups and downs!
Anyway GREAT NEWS!
Maybe i’ll buy some season tickets anyway…
Foot injuries @ Antwerp Diamond Giants
After an injury of the ‘footsole’ of Kris sergeant last month, Ayinde Ubaka just recovered from a foot injury himself. No official news on what injury it was specifically, but in basketball, the foot and ankle complex is liable to enormous amounts of pressure. Without proper equipment and stretch/training program, injuries of the lower limb will occur without a doubt.
In musculo-skeletal injuries we can define 2 types:
A) acute injury from a sudden, powerfull (extrinsic factor) impact, or
B) chronic injury, which develops slowly because of an underlying intrinsic factor.
Most of the acute foot and ankle injuries occur from landing improperly (rebounds/jumps) or twisting while falling, are accidental and difficult to prevent.
acute injuries common in basketball:
ankle sprains,
torn ligaments,
muscle pulls,
tendon ruptures
and fractures
Chronic and sub-chronic injuries:
stress fractures,
plantar fasciitis,
shin splints,
tendinitis,
sesamoiditis
and skin/nail injuries.
Crazy Dunkers @ Lotto Arena
Last Saturday, the Crazy Dunkers, had a performance after the basketball match between the Antwerp Diamond Giants and Telindus Oostende. Our Giants had a pretty good run against the 3rd team in the ranking. They could hold on until the the very end, but then Oostende showed what makes the difference between standing 3rd from the top or 3rd from the bottom in the ranking of the Ethias League. The Giants are trying to make the best of the remaining games of this season. Apparently, Eddy Casteels is going to be the new head coach for the Antwerp Diamond Giants in the next 2 seasons. Wondering if he’s going to be able to make the Giants a top 3 team like they were in the old days when he was head-coach.
Antwerp Diamond Giants: Basketball is 80% mental and 20% physical
What could have been a walk in the park, turned out to be a disaster. The Antwerp Diamond Giants lost their game against Optima Gent, scoring on a total of 58 shots merely 50% of all 2-pointers and a lousy 1 on 3 bombs. If you see that Gent did even worse with a ’success rate’ on a total amount of 64 shots scoring 46% of the 2-pointers and 28% on 3-pointers and still managed to win… It has to be said, the team just wasn’t rollin’ like it should. Seeing how the Giants are struggling through this season, you have to start wondering why. The physical strength of the key-players like Brandon Gay; Ian Hanavan; Ayinde Ubaka, David Toya, Ryan Sears and Thomas Lamot is good, but if they can’t find their ‘mojo‘, the team is doomed play ball like it is their first time touching one… Facing the fact that this season is lost and the fight for a spot in the play-off is over, I wonder how they are gonna pick up the game next season, who is going to stay and be man enough to make up for this year, who is going to coach, if they are going to gain some mental strength and fightin’ spirit… and if I’m going to buy a season ticket next year…
